A one stop Approval Process – say goodbye to independent determination of development proposals

“Today’s joint Premier and Prime Ministerial announcement for developing a one stop shop for expedited environmental approvals is a revealing faux pas regarding the streamlining Federal environmental assessment.  Development proposals won’t be subjected to an independent determination process, but a predetermined ‘rubber stamp’ approval process,” said Keith Muir director of the Colong Foundation for Wilderness.

“There will be no rejection of bad development regardless of whether it seriously degrades unique natural environments, spoils the amenity of a community or even increases mortality rates,” he said.

“This new bilateral agreement to be developed between the State and Federal Governments will mean more native forest slashing, more wilderness bulldozing, wild river flooding, loss of endangered species and much, much more planet-changing greenhouse gas belching” Mr Muir said.

“The Environment Ministers, State and Federal, have their marching orders and they won’t be able to say no to development anymore”, said Mr Muir.
