An exhibition of 160 photographs by some leading national and international photographers will showcase the extraordinary beauty of the Gardens of Stone region of the Blue Mountains, an area that is threatened by coal mining operations.

The high quality photographs will be supplemented by poems, talks, workshops, videos, maps and books.  The exhibition is being professionally curated by Tony Bond to fit this dramatic event space that overlooks Victoria Park.

During the last ten years, the Gardens of Stone Alliance[i] has taken thousands of people on guided walks to the Gardens of Stone. Visitors from the city have been astonished to find such beauty so close-by.  They recognise the need to share this experience with other Sydney residents.  Many have contributed to this unique event in order to build support for the reservation of this extraordinary place.

Now this exhibition, together with the associated talks and events program will allow Sydney to experience nature through the eyes of those who have visited the region.

The program includes:

Gardens of Stone In Focus provides Sydney residents with a better understanding of their outstanding bushland – a relationship that is possibly unique for such a large city but greatly undervalued.  Our green surrounds are the reason Sydney enjoys pure water supplies and clean air.  Yet coal mining, in the Gardens of Stone region and other water catchments now threaten these benefits.

Visitors to the exhibition will meet passionate and knowledgeable volunteers from the N.S.W. conservation groups, many who are local photographers and bushwalkers, who can answer their questions.
